Why does Naruto shout “multi shadow clone jutsu” and then only produce 3 clones, whereas other times he just shouts “shadow clone jutsu” and produces 100+ clones? Surely it should be the other way around… I think they must have translated it wrong or something!?

There’s a difference, but not in numbers.
With Shadow Clones, only the original Naruto creates the clones. With Multi Shadow Clone, the clones create clones as well.
However, during thee filers, there’s been a lot of misinterpretations of this – including this one.

Yeah I have the exact same feeling but I got bored of watching these episode’s and watched the ova’s instead and number five made me really miss him clan 7 isn’t the same with-out him i miss his huffing and non-talking stuff but i FUCKING hate his atatuide towards naruto if it continues he’s going to end up fucking dying in a BIG pit. A real “live” ghost? That’s a contradiction of terms, isn’t it?
…but in all seriousness, this episode reveals something about phobias that cripples those who have them. For instance, many who are scared of spiders are still scared of spiders after they are dead. In this episode, Naruto was scared of the ghost even though he just kicked its butt.
Just something about human nature that bugs me, I guess.
