    this is probably right after jiraiya dies so he doenst have sage mode yet.

    We know that this is before naruto fights Pain because this was before naruto met his father(the 4th) and also we know that he learnt sage mode right before he fought pain it would have been impossible for him to have go on a mission with Sai, Sakura and the wood guy, forgot his name.
