      he just says he doesnt know because he wants to have all the info before he says anything. thats what i think. plus if he said “there were 6 bodies of pain but the real pain (nagato) wasnt with them, he was controlling from somewhere else” naruto would probably storm off screaming “I’LL GO FIND THE REAL ONE AND KILL HIM!!!!!!11!!!!” and end up getting the kyubii removed and dying
