        yea but the frog sages have no excuse. jiraiya told them about nagato being pain, but that the nagato that spoke to them was not among the 6 , even thought the 6 would speak nagato’s words. so obviously saying “nagato is pain+nagato is not among the 6 + the real one is not there ”  means nagato is hiding . something the others would not know. but the sages would know . yet they left konoha in the dark about it.

      keep in mind the elders knew that itachi did it FOR the hidden leaf village, so he wasn’t a threat to begin with, which means that even if he did come back, he most likely wouldn’t have committed crimes against the village he sacrificed his life and family for.
