These flashbackss and such are nice and give us an idea of what was happening back then a litlte more it also makes me beleive they got ideas for naruto but naruto series was over (yes naruto series is over its naruto shippuden people).

I think this is one of the best fillers and all though they have got pretty annoying its nice go back and get some extra detail into what you’ve already seen, just adds to it all. Awesome Episode!

With that said, we all know he doesn’t have the time to take the exams required to become even a Chunin. So…i’m just going on a limb saying it would be awesome if he did.

      You don’t have to take a test to be promoted. Promotions are based on proof of action. Naruto could very well be promoted to Jonin simply by proving himself in armed combat against the enemy. Seeing as how he defeated Pain, he’s clearly fit for promotion. However the question is not just of his fighting abilities, it’s of his ability to lead. And that proof also comes in two different forms, one would be if the shinobi demonstrates profound intelligence in the area of strategic planning. The other is much more direct: from having a vast number of comrades willing to follow him, as that too is leadership.

      Umm, actually no. He CANNOT…i repeat CANNOT get promoted to Chunin without taking the exams. Also not everyone who becomes a jonin/chunin whatever is a leader. If it was solely by promotion he would have already been promoted. As with the eternal Genin. Facts man….Facts. Jeff, where are you getting this info from? Not being rude but seriously where? Do you people think before you post? Or just post what you think?

      Actually both Shikamaru and Neji got promoted to chunin and jonin by the hokage while they both lost at the chunin exam so get YOUR facts straight buddy!

      sweetheart, if you don’t remember clearly, during that period of time, only Shikamaru became a chunin. Neji became one later on. So, I wouldn’t say that he became a chunin without winning the exams, beause we wouldn’t know. However, Shikamaru did lose, but it was by “FORFEIT” so, technically he didn’t completely “lose” he was about to win, but didn’t care enough to become a chunin. So, everyone stop being so critical of what everyone else says okay? ^_^

      umm i havent watched naruto in forever but it seems like no one even bothers to pay attention lol. neji, shikamaru and everyone who was promoted took there exams outside of the story. you dont get to see it. just like how you dont get to see narutos training.
      you cant be be promoted without taking the exams.
      there WAS an episode where the 4th hokage says he considers kakashi a jonin already but that doesnt mean he was promoted. there was another episode where he just finished his exams and the team gave him presents.
      so jeff.. i guess thats where you got that from.. your well spoken.. but so far off.

      Your’e mostly correct but with one small detail. Shikamaru was promoted inside of the story after the chunin exams in the original Naruto. They said in the show that you don’t have to WIN your fight in the final round to be promoted. They just assess the skill you showed in the fight and make a decision to promote the genin win or lose. That’s what it said on the show. As for if you have to take the exams to be promoted in the first place, it’s all speculation because it never says one way or the other in the show. Any of you could be right

      Yeah your right shikamaru was promoted just before naruto and sasuke fought and then naruto found out about it just before he led naruto and the others to get back sasuke. Those two episodes talked about how no one was suppose to be promoted because orochimaru ruined the exams and lady tsunade only promoted shikamaru because the 3rd and everyone was really impressed by him.
      
      Theres like fifteen episodes I can refer to about this whole thing. There may be an exception like shikamaru, but it HAS been said that theres no other way to be promoted unless you take these exams. They talk about it early on when team kakashi first meet and your first starting to understand the narutoverse, and when the chunin exams are about to begin, and after there over too.

      your right on most of it but Shikamaru didn’t forfeit because he didn’t care for being a chunin, he forfeited because he predicted he would lose since he was out of chakra and Temari had the advantage over him
