Damn this episode explains so much.. don’t read this if you don’t want me to spoil it..
1. Orochimaru takes over other peoples bodies and lives in them because to him they’re like the skin of a snake, and then when they reach their limit he finds a new one, like shedding skin
2. He’s overall fucked up because both his parents died and because when he saw Tsunade’s brother and lover die he realized the power people had inside to awaken. He made his cursed seals because of that
3. He likes snakes because he learned snake skins were a sign of good luck and rebirth, which made him feel better about his parents dying, and his true form is a white snake because snake skins were white
4. He wanted Sasuke because he saw Itachi’s power with the Sharingan, but he was too strong, so he goes after Sasuke instead
5. He utterly fails at life

  Maybe. It seemed like Orochimaru never learned the importance of living life, esp. with other people who could care for him, bcuz his parents died early in his life. Oroch misunderstood Nawaki’s death. War is assured in the shinobi world as it is in our’s. After Dan’s death, he learned humans’ greatest suffering comes from losing others (something he couldn’t even understand from his own parents’ death).
  He was always a genius for a shinobi & eventually Sanin, so he thought he could do the impossible – cheat death. For him, he learned it would have to come at any cost, since such jutsu were deemed forbidden. He researched a lot thru his own work. However when he saw Itachi, not only did he see a way to extend his life further, but he saw a means to great power. The power of Uchiha. What was the use in living forever, if you couldn’t become more powerful?! That’s when he became pure evil. That’s when he decided experimentation was the only means to match an Uchiha. It was also the only way to complete his eternal life research. After that, the rest is anime history. Soon to be old history, when it comes to Orochimaru …and Sasuke.

Orochimaru’s Irony (with current & future Akatsuki member info):
SASORI had eternal youth as a puppet &could probably construct more of those chest chakra-holding cores & transfer his chakra into that and that thing in2 a puppet body over & over again, as long as he was alive. HIDAN was immortal, as long as he was whole-bodied and not buried underground so that his body could decompose. KAKUZU was immortal, as long as he had more than one heart & stayed alive. ZETSU is a plant, and plants spring back up every year & can live above & below ground all year long, so he’s probably immortal or at least will be killed before he ever dies of old age. TOBI is immortal with his eternal MS. ITACHI was about to obtain his eternal MS, if he had killed Sasuke. And KISAME is really old and has a shit ton of chakra and can get even more chakra from even the most powerful of opponents through his Samehada sword – that’s gotta be like eternal youth or something!!

You pretty much have to be immortal or a serious badass to be in Akatsuki. Orochimaru was essentially qualified as an immortal (including other jutsu) to be Akatsuki member. As soon as he’s teamed up w/ Itachi, he’s kickd out for getting his ass wooped by Itachi. Given his other failures (attack on Konoha & Sasuke), it almost makes ya feel sorry for him. …Almost! DattebayO!!!
